Please review our Final Checklist to ensure you’re fully prepared for your trip. 

AXUS travel App

Download the AXUS Travel App.  This app gives you access to your itinerary in real-time, provides useful information you will need during your travels, and pushes notifications including flight reminders and updates. The Documents section of the app includes a copy of your flight confirmation and other important documentation.

TRAVEL Insurance

If you have not done so already, we recommend that you purchase Travel Insurance to protect you against delays, cancellations, and other unforeseen circumstances that could impact your trip.

Also check your Medical Insurance policy for coverage whilst traveling, including overseas medical evacuation. If you are not covered, we recommend you obtain a policy or supplemental Travel Insurance that provides this.

Enroll in STEP

The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service which allows U.S. citizens and nationals traveling abroad to enroll their trip with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. One of the key benefits of enrolling is that it helps the U.S. Embassy contact you in an emergency - be it a natural disaster, civil unrest, or family emergency.

baggage ALLOWANCE

Review the baggage allowances in your AXUS itinerary and on the Baggage Information document in the AXUS Documents section.

baggage for safaris

Baggage allowances for Safari Air Transfers are much more restrictive than scheduled flights and will dictate how you pack for your trip. Generally, you are limited to between 33-44 lbs (15-20 kg) per person in soft-sided bags without protruding wheels. 

We are frequently asked what type of luggage we use. The following bags are both lightweight and extremely durable. In addition, they have always complied with the strict restrictions of smaller aircraft while on safari. We recommend purchasing both bags for maximum travel flexibility.

The Travelpro Rolling Duffel allows you to bring more clothing and personal items on your trip because it is so lightweight, yet will withstand the rigors of international travel. 

The Bago Foldable Duffel is particularly useful because it can be folded up and stored in your larger luggage until needed, and it weighs a mere 1.5 lbs (less than .75 kgs)!

Luggage trackers

Consider purchasing Luggage Trackers such as Apple AirTags or Tile Trackers.

Google Translate App

Download the Google Translate app, including Offline Translation, so you don’t get lost in translation! 

Calling

Wi-Fi calling is generally possible using your preferred app (e.g. FaceTime, WhatsApp). Additionally, you may be able to make and receive calls on your mobile phone while traveling. Check with your service provider about options and roaming charges before you leave.

For trips that include travel to remote areas without reliable cell service, you might consider obtaining a satellite phone.  We can provide additional information upon request.

Fitness

Your trip has been designed to accommodate your level of fitness. Let us know if there is anything additional we should be aware of that will help your trip meet or exceed your expectations. This could include injuries or other limitations, as well as your personal interests (e.g. running, yoga, personal training).

Photography

For anyone with an interest in photography, there may be options during your trip to work with professional photographers or obtain access to specialist equipment such as cameras, lenses, tripods, etc. Please let us know if this is of interest to you.

Shipping

If you purchase items you want to ship home, we recommend you use reputable, global shipping companies, such as FedEx and DHL. The hotel concierge will be your best resource to facilitate shipping.  Some vendors will also offer to ship items for you directly. Regardless of who arranges shipping for you, it’s important to use your credit card to pay for it, as this provides you with recourse in case your items are damaged or fail to arrive.
